BBC to ’scale back’ website

p2pnet news view TV | Radio | P2P:- Aunty, aka the Beeb, aka the British Broadcasting Corporation, aka the BBC, will “rein in operations across TV, radio and internet,” says the Independent . BBC director general Mark Thompson “indicated that there would be a reduction in the scale of its popular website, and possibly the closure of some of its digital channels or radio stations, following claims from politicians and rivals in commercially funded media that it had grown too big,” says the story. But he “also made a fierce defence of the independence of the Corporation and claimed that public service broadcasters around the world were under threat because of the downturn in the media economy.” Thompson “implied digital services such as BBC3, BBC4 and 6Music could face the axe,” says the Guardian , noting, “These cost millions to run but reach a relatively small audience compared with the mainstream BBC1, BBC2, Radio 1 and Radio 2.
