TalkTalk Rises Awareness in WiFi Safety
Honoring the invitation from Channel 4 News to participate in a broadcast, security expert Matt Roburgh, member of the team behind Internet service provider TalkTalk, seized the opportunity to educate the public on WiFi safety and the threat posed by WiFi hacking. Roburgh directed the discussion towards the limitations of today’s network safety solutions and hackers’ ability to constantly reinvent their methods of tackling existing security measures. Admitting he had also been a victim of WiFi hacking, the expert explained that although protection of WiFi connections with passwords is highly recommendable, this measure alone might not always be enough to block hacking attempts.

Created in response to the controversial campaign initiated by UK law firm ACS:Law against illegal file-sharers, the “ Speculative Invoicing Handbook ” provides valuable information on how to avoid becoming a victim of extortion, Zeropaid reports. With their so-called “revolutionary business model” in hand, ACS:Law – a UK-based law firm claiming to be specialized in globally representing the legal interests of property rights holders – recently started an aggressive movement against more than 15,000 presumed illegal file-sharers across the UK. Although initially determined to effectively counter copyright infringement acts and replace the unreliable, old-fashioned anti-piracy measures of other companies, the UK law firm was later forced to drop a large number of cases due to lack of clear evidence.

German movie producer Max Wiedemann has a plan to combat online piracy: He wants ISPs to block access to streaming video sites that offer unlicensed full-length feature films. Wiedemann proposed this type of ISP-based access control during an event organized by the German anti-piracy organization GVU, according to IT news site heise.de . Wiedemann told is audience that it would be “technically trivial” to implement such blocks and singled out German-language streaming media directory Kino.to as an example for a site that should be blocked.
