Good times lie ahead for the companies that gather information on BitTorrent and other file-sharing networks. In the US, the MPAA and RIAA are negotiating with ISPs on how to deal with alleged copyright infringers, and in the UK citizens could lose their Internet access for this alleged offense if overall levels of file-sharing aren’t reduced to meet government targets. Download Torrentless Torrents From Torrentz with Firefox

Most popular BitTorrent clients including uTorrent and Vuze support magnet links, although only a handful of people are actually using them. With magnet links BitTorrent can fire up a download without even having to download a .torrent file. The link uses the torrent hash and DHT to download content and allows for additional trackers to be added.

AFACT v iiNet: It’s Impossible to Block The Pirate Bay

It’s day twelve in the copyright infringement case of AFACT – representing several Hollywood studios – and Aussie ISP iiNet (earlier coverage of day one , day two , day three , day four , day five , day six , day seven , day eight , day nine , day ten , day eleven . The case continued Thursday in the Federal Court, with iiNet CEO Michael Malone taking the stand for the fourth consecutive day, and possibly his last. Not unusually for a copyright trial involving BitTorrent, the issue of The Pirate Bay was raised.

uTorrent 2.0 To Elimininate The Need For ISP Throttling

ISPs have been throttling BitTorrent traffic for years already. Although the true reasons for this are not always clear, some ISPs have argued that a high number of BitTorrent connections are slowing down other applications and traffic. In early 2007, when network neutrality was still a non-issue for most people, BitTorrent inventor Bram Cohen told us that ISPs should find a way to cope with BitTorrent.
