BaconBits, A BitTorrent Tracker for Redditors Only

Social news sites like Reddit carry great influence and the capacity to mobilize thousands of people for causes deemed important by the masses. A perfect example of the efficiency and speed of Reddit users became apparent a few days ago when a group of Redditors decided that the community should have a private BitTorrent tracker, exclusive to respected Reddit users. On Christmas day the idea was born and just a few hours later the tracker named ‘ BaconBits ‘ was already up and running, with the first torrents being uploaded by an enthusiastic crowd.

Zombieland Co-Writer: BitTorrent “Affects Likelihood” of Part 2

Rheet Reese laments that Zombieland is currently the most pirated movie on BitTorrent, and says that it may ruin chances for a sequel. A few days ago I mentioned how the writer and director of Ink praised piracy, and BitTorrent in particular, for generating “unprecedented exposure” for the movie, pushing it to #16 on IMDb’s movie meter and to the 20th most popular movie in the world. “Knowing there’s absolutely nothing we can do about it, we’ve embraced the piracy and are just happy Ink is getting unprecedented exposure,” they wrote in an email to fans and friends.

Indie Movie Explodes on BitTorrent, Makers Bless Piracy

Written and directed by Jamin Winans, Ink is the story of a brutal mercenary who appears in the dreamscape of a comatose 8 year old called Emma. Like virtually every movie nowadays, the film ended up being ripped and put on BitTorrent just a few days ago. In this short time span it was downloaded by more than 400,000 people on BitTorrent alone, earning it a spot in TorrentFreak’s chart of top 10 most pirated movies this week.
