Web security firm ScanSafe has revealed its latest data showing a significant 55% increase in illegal MP3 and software download attempts over the last three months on corporate networks. The company currently processes data across more than 100 countries for millions of employees, giving it what it calls industry’s “most significant insight” into the latest trends in Web traffic and malware.

Bank customers are increasingly being duped into acting as “money mules” for hackers, unwittingly laundering cash stolen from business bank accounts, the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation warned the nation’s financial institutions on Thursday. Using specialized Trojan horse malware , cyber crooks have been intercepting web banking credentials from the computers of small and midsized businesses, and then initiating wire transfers to mules around the country. The mules are consumers who’ve been lured into fake work-at-home scams, in which their employment involves receiving money transfers and then forwarding the funds to Eastern Europe, directly or through other mules.

Swedish Appeals Court rules lay judge has conflict of interest being that he works for Spotify, a legal P2P music streaming service partly owned by the record companies suing The Pirate Bay. Last week the case against Swedish BitTorrent tracker site The Pirate Bay heated up with reports that the lay judge for their appeal is employed by Spotify, a legal P2P music streaming service partly owned by the record companies suing it for copyright infringement. Both The Pirate Bay and the lead attorneys for the music industry agreed that there is a conflict of interest and the Svea Court of Appeal decided to take up the case at their behest.

One of the things people tend to forget when posting pictures and personal information online is that a lot of it is only a short Internet search away from their current or potential employers (not to mention their parents). It has now become standard procedure for many employers to sit down with Google and cyberstalk potential employees, while the more savvy hunt down Facebook profiles and Twitter feeds. The city of Bozeman Montana, however, has decided that all of that is too much work—it’s now requesting that potential employees hand over the login credentials for any social networking sites they frequent.
