Lily Allen: Sell Bootlegs of My CDs, Don’t Share for Free

UK recording artist, and vocal anti-file-sharing critic, remarks that she’s fine with people selling bootleg copies of her CDs rather than share it for free with others since the person selling it is at least placing “some kind of value on my music.” Lily Allen just doesn’t seem to understand music fans at all. Gifted as she may be as a recording artist she thinks that commercial pirates, those that offer copyrighted material for financial gain, are better than noncommercial pirates (i.e. file-sharers), those that offer copyrighted material simply so that others can enjoy it as well.

Lily Allen is OK with Fans Buying Her Burned CDs

After being at the core of the file sharing debate between artists and announcing her retreat from it later due to the “abuse” her blog was getting as a consequence of her views posted there, Lily Allen joins the issue again. This time she says that she is not against people getting burned copies of her CDs as long as they pay for them. “If someone comes up with a burnt copy of my CD and offers it to you for £4 I haven't a problem with that as long as the person buying it places some kind of value on my music,” she told Key 103 .

A few weeks ago I mentioned how Jon Newton over at P2PNet began a discussion with Billy Bragg, English alternative rock musician and member of the Featured Artists Coalition (FAC), over how best to create a stable digital music business model for the 21st century. Together they came up with a2f2a , artists-to-fans-to-artists , a site which is intended to create a community where artists and music fans are able to discuss how they can “cut out the middleman” and ensure that artists are fairly compensate for their work.

Lily Allen Changes Tune, Now Wants To Throttle Pirates

There can hardly be a reader who hasn’t read about the raging debate sparked by Lily Allen and her now-defunct anti-piracy blog/campaign. It has been quite the hot topic this week. Up until yesterday, Lily was one of the most prominent supporters of a proposed 3 strikes regime to deal with alleged file-sharers – crucially one which would ultimately lead to disconnection from the Internet for those accused.
