Simon Cowell Asks for FBI’s Help in File Sharing Issue
Last month Simon Cowell has taken another step against illegal file sharing with “his first piece of UK political lobbying” – now the music mogul has called in the FBI to stop hackers stealing music produced by his label. Apparently, Cowell’s Syco label, part of Sony BMG, has been the target of many attacks lately, perhaps owing to Cowell’s recent moves against piracy. Alexandra Burke's forthcoming single has found its way to p2p networks, and the same thing happened to the new material from 2005 X Factor winner Shayne Ward.

O2 added to the number of Internet service providers in UK that oppose the measures UK government wants to impose against illegal file-sharing. The company has recently spoken against the practice of sending warning letters to suspected file sharers, a practice in which UK law firm ACS:Law and its client DigiProtect have indulged lately. DigiProtect is an anti-piracy firm representing a large number of copyright holders and which has adopted the same tactics of intimidating alleged copyright infringers that have been become quite popular among such groups.

Leechpack is soft-launching a new service to remotely download files from one-click hosters and torrents sites this week. The site offers similar services as Furk.net or BTaccel.com , but adds sites like Rapidshare and Megaupload to the mix, making it possible to download files from these services without jumping through unnecessary hoops. leechpack Registered users of the service can simply add links to torrents or files hosted on one-click hosters, and Leechpack will automatically start to download the content to its own servers.
