Intel victim of cyberattacks at the same time as Google
Intel was also a victim of a cyberattack at the same time as the high-profile attack on Google, adding it to the list of companies allegedly targeted by Chinese hackers. The company revealed the information Tuesday in its annual filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, noting that the attack could harm Intel’s business operations if any intellectual property was stolen. Intel didn’t reveal much more in its filing except to say that a “sophisticated incident” occurred in January, “around the same time as the recently publicized security incident reported by Google.” The company said it’s investigating the incident, but warned investors that it may not be fully aware yet of the magnitude of what happened.

Swedish investigators are probing a hacker U.S. authorities accuse of unlawfully intruding into Cisco Systems, NASA’s Ames Research Center and NASA’s Advanced Supercomputing Division, the authorities said Monday. Philip Gabriel Pettersson, known in the hacking world as “ Stakkato ,” allegedly seized computer code that controls internet traffic.

Admitted TJX hacker Albert Gonzalez has identified two Russian accomplices who helped him hack into numerous companies and steal more than 130 million credit and debit card numbers. Gonzalez told prosecutors that the hackers breached at least four card processing companies, as well as a series of foreign banks, a brokerage house and several retail store chains, according to a sentencing memo filed by his lawyer on Tuesday that was incorrectly redacted. The document reveals that six months after his May 2008 arrest, Gonzalez located and provided prosecutors with the “complicated” and “lengthy” password to decrypt his laptop, which contained “a vast array of historical data and communications” that helped the government indict other members of Gonzalez’s team, and could be used in future search warrants.

Three alleged members of the hacker gang Kryogeniks were hit with a federal conspiracy charge Thursday for a 2008 stunt that replaced Comcast’s homepage with a shout-out to other hackers. Defiant, in an undated photo from his MySpace profile last year. Prosecutors identified Christopher Allen Lewis, 19, and James Robert Black, Jr, 20, as the hackers “EBK” and “Defiant,” known for hijacking Comcast’s domain name in May of last year — a prank that took down the cable giant’s homepage and webmail service for more than five hours, and allegedly cost the company over $128,000.
