Google Sneak Views: Part I

Google has added St John’s, Sherbrooke, London, Sudbury, Winnipeg, Saskatoon, Edmonton, Nanaimo and Victoria to its list of Canadian cities spammed on its Google Street View, “a feature of Google Maps and Google Earth that shows high-resolution street-level images,” as Digital Homes sums it up. Other Google-stalked Canadian cities include Toronto, Calgary, Montreal, Quebec City, Halifax, Vancouver, Squamish, Whistler, Ottawa Kitchener and Waterloo. “The service which provides panoramic views of street from a height of about 2.5 metres was launched in May of 2007 and is now available over ten countries including the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia and Japan,” says the story.

Parents of Dead Teen Sue School Over Sexting Images

The parents of a teenage girl who committed suicide last year are suing the girl’s ex-boyfriend and several other former high school classmates who circulated a nude photo of her and harassed her about the image. The suit was filed in Ohio by Cynthia and Albert Logan who say that the students’ “degrading sexual insults” caused their 18-year-old daughter Jessica, their only child, severe emotional distress, which led her to kill herself in July 2008, a month after graduating from high school. The suit names Ryan Salyers, Sara Jane Ramsey, Courtney Richardson, and Emily Stachler, as well as a minor identified only as A.

Ignorance or Duplicity: P2P Labeled “the bane of Hollywood” on TV Program

In my personal top most annoying things lately, I would have to include people who talk about p2p, BitTorrent and illegal file sharing without having a single clue about any of these. What annoys me, in fact, is this ‘talking' being done on TV shows by biased, opinion-forming TV hosts who don’t even do their homework properly before appearing in front of the camera to pass on sententious judgments and claims. Any of their actions that day last February, the contract said, could be “edited, in all media, throughout the universe, in perpetuity.” She and the other singers, many of whom are librarians in the Washington, D.C., area, briefly contemplated whether they should give away the rights to hurtling their images and voices across the galaxies forever.
