Jim Gianopulos (right), the man who runs Fux Filmed Entertainment, wants America to “pass a law similar to France’s ‘three strikes’ rule that would allow a judge to order Internet service providers to disconnect users who download copyrighted material,” says ContactMusic . Um, Jim, the US already has a very substantial stake the 3 strikes bidniz plan. However, the Hollywood, the American end , and the Big 4 music labels from France, Japan, the UK and US, failed miserably the first time they tried to launch it in the States Now they’re only waiting to see how how much they can get away with in Europe before trying again, ordering the Obama administration put the Three Strikes effort into effect in the US.

If you don’t back a copyright treaty being negotiated in secret, you must want to destroy Hollywood, its blockbuster movies and all the jobs they create. At least that’s the message from the Motion Picture Association of America. It’s spelled out in a Thursday memo to the Senate Judiciary Committee, urging lawmakers to support the Obama administration’s efforts toward negotiating an intellectual property agreement with more than a dozen countries.

Isamu Kaneko – Winny's 'father' Most of the p2p users know by now pretty well the names of the most popular file sharing programs in the world and have certainly picked at least one to be loyal to (probably after trying out a few). It seems that in Japan, file sharers’ favorite is Winny, a p2p software distributed free of charge starting with May 2002 by Isamu Kaneko, a former University of Tokyo researcher. However, Kaneko has been accused of encouraging those using his application to commit copyright infringement as Winny has been involved in a number of cases of data being leaked (from private data on PCs to internal government classified information).

Research teams from the Saïd Business School at the University of Oxford and the University of Oviedo’s Department of Applied Economics (supported by Cisco) have released a new study on global broadband quality. Researchers analyzed approximately 24 million broadband speed test records from Speedtest.net from May to July of this year. The Canadian rankings are lousy given that the country aspires to be viewed as a global leader.
