Skype could aquire Gizmo5 and escape the P2P legal issue As P2PON has previously reported Skype has been involved in legal issues over the past months and the truth is it's not off the hook yet.The problems come from what makes it so popular in the first place – its P2P structure (there would be no free worldwide Skype-to-Skype calling without it) which the previous owners claim is illegally used by the new ones. In order to escape these pressuring legal issues the new owners of the communication service have come up with an interesting solution – Gecko, a brand new in-house project combining a SIP and P2P back-end structure. However, since a project of this sort would surely be costly and might even mean loss of functionality and loyal Skype users, a new name was brought up – Gizmo5.
