IsoHunt’s Endeavor to Be Declared Legit Continues

Lately there has been a rather unfortunate p2p climate as headlines concerning some of the most popular torrent sites have revealed bad news all starting, of course, from legal matters. isoHunt’s founder, Gary Fung, wants to change that as he seeks for a favorable decision in court but what chances does he really have? After The Pirate Bay announced earlier this month the shutting down of its torrent tracker (but denied any connection between the decision and the legal pressure that was put onto two of the site’s founders), yesterday we reported how Mininova has finally capitulated to the entertainment industry’s joy and complied with the court’s ruling given this summer which had asked it to remove all the links to copyright protected material.

EU vote opens the way to 3 strikes law

p2pnet news view P2P | Politics:- The bitter war between online communities and the entertainment cartels has just been escalated. With the EU parliament scheduled to vote on a controversial EU telecom reform package, member states agreed to add a new paragraph, “prohibiting national authorities from excluding users from the internet without a court order,” p2pnet reported in May. However, in a move that in political doublespeak is being hailed as a ‘victory’ for consumers, and at the 11th hour, the clause, which would have protected people from the depredations of the Hollyood and the major record labels, has been drastically watered down.

Pirate Bay Offers First CC-Licensed Swedish Film

Film follows female member of a neo-nazi gang whose day job is to “take care of four crazy old people that all are just waiting to die.” Too often BitTorrent and P2P in general gets demonized for being replete with copyrighted material that is shared without the permission of its creators. Under reported is the large volume of material that’s offered by artists looking to simply put their work in the public sphere for others to enjoy. Hanna Sköld is just such a person.
