US Government Consults Public On Illegal File-Sharing
The Prioritizing Resources and Organization for Intellectual Property (PRO-IP) Act was one of the last pieces of legislation passed by President Bush back in 2008. The purpose of the act is to toughen current anti-piracy measures. Among other things the act calls for harsher punishments, the creation of a dedicated FBI anti-piracy unit and a copyright czar who reports directly to the White House.

Pending the outcome of a civil action taken by several entertainment companies against the site, in August the district court in Stockholm ordered The Pirate Bay to be disconnected from the Internet. The site’s bandwidth supplier, Black Internet, was told it would face penalties of 500,000 kronor ($70,600) if it failed to carry out the order of the court. The company complied, but after initially deciding it would simply accept the decision, its management later changed their mind and said they would appeal.

The European Commission’s investigation into Microsoft’s bundling of Internet Explorer with Windows may be winding down, as the Commission has announced plans to begin testing the browser ballot proposed this past July by Microsoft . Starting Friday, consumers, OEMs, developers, and “other interested parties” will have a chance to speak their mind on the browser ballot. In deciding to move ahead with the browser ballot, the EC cited improvements made to Microsoft’s original proposal.

And she said the same of the RIAA, Sony (Japan), UMG (France) and News Corpse (Australia) “who, according to Dugger, were also around at the time,” we went on. All other considerations aside, it’s a shocking indictment of the ‘alliance’ that it allowed such drivel to be published and widely disseminated in its name.
