Pirates Jump on District 9 Torrents
In the present day and age, no blockbuster movie can escape the fate of being pirated. However, the popularity of the various rips and titles can differ drastically, and a recent leak of a high quality version of Sci-Fi thriller District 9 might become a record breaker. Two weeks ago a Telesync version of District 9 already found its way onto the Internet, but the rate at which the freshly released R5 release is being downloaded easily beats all other titles released in 2009 to date.

At the end of last month p2pnet became the first site to sign up for Crosbie Fitch’s 1p2u micro-patronage project and to date, I’ve clocked up 21p from two readers (thanks ), which is about 38 cents in Canadian dollars. One penny may not seem much but to put it into perspective, p2pnet is still a non-entrepreneurial one-man project. I’m a musician and p2pnet started life when I thought it’d be fun to share, and collaborate with, other musicians via MIDI (Musical Instrument Digital Interface) which, at the time, I’d only just come across.

In 2008 LimeWire was the most installed P2P application with an impressive market-share of 37%, compared to 14% for runner-up uTorrent. Although Limewire is primarily a Gnutella-based client it also supports BitTorrent downloads. Although we can safely say that most LimeWire users don’t use the application just for its BitTorrent support, LimeWire could not ignore the popularity of BitTorrent and had no other option than to implement the most used file-sharing protocol back in 2006 .

Apple’s Wordwide Developers Conference is still going on until the end of this week, but the cat is already quite literally out of the bag. The new 10.6 version of OS X, also known as Snow Leopard, leaked onto torrent sites just one day after it got introduced to the developer community. The presentation of Snow Leopard was one of the highlights of Apple’s keynote yesterday.
