Oldest BitTorrent Site Knocked Down, But Not Out

Founded in 2003, UK-based FileSoup was one of the original torrent sites. Online for longer than even the mighty Pirate Bay, the site developed a great reputation and a warm community. After many years of keeping a low profile, on Monday 27th July 2009, police and the MPAA-funded anti-piracy group FACT conducted a raid on the home address of the owner – known to all in the torrent community as ‘TheGeeker’.

New McAfee ‘report’

US ‘anti-virus’ firm McAfee, which piggy-backs on the popularity of celebrities such as Jessica Biel and Brad Pitt to hype its product , is now using spam emails as a self-advertising tool. It says spammers are “increasingly piggybacking on the reputation of big brand names to take advantage of their online audiences,” according to TechCentral . “In its new spam report, McAfee also said that it was also seeing an increase in ‘targeted’ or ’spear’ phishing, and brand abuse in non-phishing e-mails,” says the story, going on: “McAfee warned that corporations needed to be vigilant about the type of brand abuse that criminal gangs would use to ‘tap into’ their audiences.” It “used to be easy to spot a spam message: poor language, misspellings, grammar errors, and sloppy graphics,” it says at, but, “the latest spams are professional, and almost foolproof.” So who ya gonna call … ?

Has the Pirate Bay Deal Been “Blown Up?”

“Strong doubts” surface that Global Gaming Factory will have sufficient funds in place to acquire the Swedish BitTorrent tracker site . The Pirate Bay saga gets stranger and stranger by the day. The Swedish BitTorrent tracker site was convicted for the facilitation of copyright infringement this past April and so it appeared that the site would inevitably be gone for good.
