Woman Loses Job Due to Error in FBI Criminal Database

A Maryland woman lost her accounting job after a background check performed through the FBI’s criminal database indicated, erroneously, that she was unsuitable for the job, according to the Baltimore Sun . Eschol Amelia “Amy” Studnitz had been working for Corporate Mailing Services since August 2008 as a senior accountant. Last July, after CMS won a contract to handle mail for the Social Security Administration, the administration performed a routine background check on Studnitz and other CMS employees, who needed a low-level security clearance to work on the contract.

California Flooded with Health Breach Reports Under New Law

California officials have received more than 800 reports of health data breaches in five months after a new state law went into effect January 1. The law requires healthcare organizations in California to report suspected incidents of intentional and unintentional unauthorized breaches of a patient’s personally identifiable health information to the California Department of Public Health. The agency, however, says it was surprised by the large number of reports it received in such a short period, according to the Journal of the American Health Information Management Association , and expect that number to increase dramatically.

Survey: only 3 federal websites outdo Google on satisfaction

Can a federal government website earn a higher user satisfaction than Google? Yes, we it can, but it doesn’t happen often. Only three US government websites, all run by the Social Security Administration, beat out the Big G’s satisfaction scores.
