When do net neutrality "anecdotes" become "data"?

In our coverage of debates over the Federal Communications Commission’s authority to enforce its proposed Internet nondiscrimination rules , we’ve taken a look at pro and con arguments over whether Congress gave the agency net neutrality powers. But the question of statutory authority isn’t the only challenge facing the FCC’s suggested regulations—rules that would sanction ISPs for discriminating against applications and require transparency in their network management practices. Critics also argue that US incidents where ISPs engaged in questionable network behavior have been so few that setting up tougher standards amounts to “regulation by anecdote.”

Teen dies in China net addiction camp

Games | P2P:- China has an estimated 107 million juvenile surfers, 13 million of them labelled addicts, says the Shanghai Daily . And that can have dire consequences. An illegal net “rehabilitation camp” was shut down and 13 workers, including its president, were arrested after a 15-year-old Deng Senshan (right) died, said China Daily recently.

4 Years After TJX Hack, Payment Industry Sets Security Standards

Four years after hackers breached TJX’s unsecured wireless network and stole information on more than 94 million customers, a standards body for the payment-card industry has finally released guidelines for securing wireless networks. The Payment Card Industry Security Standards Council released its 33-page report (.pdf) on Thursday. It said the guidelines are the product of a working group composed of more than 40 entities — banks, network security companies and point-of-sale vendors — convened after the wireless networks of several companies, including TJX, the parent company of TJ Maxx, Marshalls, Office Max and other outlets, were hacked.
