Verizon to Forward Warnings from RIAA, MPAA

Second largest phone company in the US agrees to forward notices of copyright infringement on behalf of the entertainment industry, perhaps hinting at a sign of things to come as ISPs slowly enter the world of content distribution. Perhaps hinting a sign of things to come, Verizon Communications will reportedly begin forwarding notices of copyright infringement to its customers at the behest of both the MPAA and RIAA. The moves is part of an unspecified “test” that will begin this Thursday, the test probably meaning to determine whether the benefits of helping protect copyrighted – and vis a vis possible future content distribution partnerships – outweigh the costs of angering customers.

VID SPOOF: Hosting a Win 7 BitTorrent Party

Mocks the recent official release of Windows 7 by showing people gathered around food, laptops out, and ready to use their favorite BitTorrent client and tracker site to download a copy for free. As most of us here already know, Windows 7 was officially launched last Thursday the 22nd. I, and many others, have been using it for quite some time now so and I’m not sure that a majority have exactly ran down to their local Best Buy to buy a legitimate copy.

New Owner Takes Over Pirate Bay

The Pirate Bay was sold Thursday to a Swedish-based software concern that hopes to turn the world’s notorious BitTorrent tracker into a legitimate, pay-to-play site. Global Gaming Factory shareholders approved the $8.5 million transaction Thursday, four months after The Pirate Bay’s four co-founders were found guilty of facilitating copyright infringement. Within weeks, the site is expected to become a subscription-based service, although no major content providers have agreed to license their wares.
