SXSW 2010 on BitTorrent: 3.35 GB of Free Music

Since 2005 the SXSW music festival has published thousands of free tracks from participating artists. For some of the previous editions, SXSW itself has offered torrents for the artist showcases, but since 2008 this task has been delegated to the public. Since all of the MP3s are available for download on the festival’s site, it only takes one person to get a torrent up and running.

The guys at Kickasstorrents have come up with an alternative-look for those of you who like things as simple as they can possibly get. A new lite version of the popular file sharing site is now available so go ahead and check it out : “You know during the long history of beer the invention and popularization of lite beer for some reason happened only in the 20th century. Premiere in FileSharing World: First Magnet-Only Torrent Index!

The decision of popular bittorrent service The Pirate Bay to adopt the idea of including magnet links on their site has recently become the main subject of debate among the IT community. With The Pirate Bay having made the first step in this direction, various BitTorrent clients followed through and started to add support for these types of links as well; some even took the concept to the next level and introduced Internet’s first “magnet-only” torrent index. The Pirate Bay’s metamorphosis began last November, when the website announced the closing down of its tracker and the integration of magnet links.

BREIN Shuts Down 393 Torrent Sites, No One Notices

After seemingly relentless pressure, last year anti-piracy outfit BREIN had their greatest achievement to date. After an earlier court decision went against them, Mininova, one of the most important torrent sites on the Internet, finally had to give in to the desires of the movie-orientated anti-piracy outfit, removing virtually all of their torrents. It is difficult to downplay this success.

The Pirate Bay Will Not Appeal Order to Remove Torrents

In an attempt to ensure that Dutch citizens can’t access The Pirate Bay, anti-piracy outfit BREIN took three of the tracker’s founders to court this summer. BREIN won the case and Fredrik, Gottfrid and Peter were ordered to block Dutch users, a decision they decided to appeal. In the verdict of the initial appeal, the Court ruled that The Pirate Bay has to remove a list of torrents linking to copyrighted works.
