China’s Great Firewall Blocks IsoHunt

China adheres to its policy of restricting access to file-sharing sites, having recently added the Canada-based BitTorrent site IsoHunt to the country’s infamous Great Firewall. Since the order has entered in effect, the number of IsoHunt Chinese visitors has spiraled down dramatically, with site reports indicating a 99% drop in traffic. According to experts, the statistically registered decrease in traffic is so pronounced that any technical difficulties have to be excluded from the overall picture.

Consumer Rights Organization Starts Pro-Filesharing Campaign

Presently, downloading movies and music for personal use in The Netherlands is seen as “fair use” and not punishable by law. However, in common with most other European countries, The Netherlands is trying to find a solution to the ever-increasing use of file-sharing sites to share copyrighted material. One of the options for the government is to criminalize unauthorized downloading by making it punishable by law.

FDA ponders drug ads on Twitter, et al

How far should Twitter, Wikipedia, blogs and other “social media” go in promoting drugs online? Google, Yahoo and “other Web companies” don’t believe you already have enough coming at you in the way of advertisements. So they’re joining the pharmaceuticals in trying to talk US federal regulators into making it easier to tout drugs online.
